FIRST GUESTS REVEALED FOR 2013 AUCKLAND WRITERS & READERS FESTIVAL

Renowned international writers Kate Atkinson and Ben Goldacre will appear at next year’s Auckland Writers & Readers Festival from 15-19 May 2013 at the Aotea Centre in Auckland.
Kate Atkinson is one of the world’s most popular fiction writers.  Her books include the literary hit Behind The Scenes At The Museum and the series of Jackson Brodie crime novels.  Atkinson’s much anticipated new novel Life After Life will be released in April 2013.

Dr. Ben Goldacre is an epidemiologist and Guardian columnist known for the bestselling non-fiction book Bad Science which has sold hundreds of thousands of copies and been translated into 25 languages.   His latest work Bad Pharma takes aim at the distortion of science in the interests of the pharmaceuticals industry.

Atkinson and Goldacre are just two of more than 100 writers and thinkers expected in Auckland next May who will lead discussions ranging across fiction, poetry, memoir, science, history, war reportage, biography, music and much more.

Others confirmed include Scottish-Nigerian poet, memoirist and novelist Jackie Kay, New York YA writer Libba Bray and New Zealand favourites Albert Wendt and Kate De Goldi.
“I can’t wait to reveal to New Zealand audiences the full line-up we have in store for 2013,” said Artistic Director Anne O’Brien.
“The writers mentioned to date are just the start of a rich and satisfying array of writers who will transport us to different worlds geographically, intellectually and emotionally.   It’ll be an unmissable event,” she said.

The schools’ programme will be available in February 2013 with the full programme announced on the 20 March 2013 and tickets on sale from that time at www.buytickets.co.nz.  Pictured below: (l to r)  Kate Atkinson, Ben Goldacre
